DOMINO CONSTRUCTION UPDATE:Week of October 13 , 2014 and October 20, 2014

Demolition activities are ongoing at the Raw Sugar Warehouse. Hand demolition is continuing on the west side of the building along the East River. Mechanical demolition continues on the south and north sides of the building. Skidsteers sort demolition debris outside of the Raw Sugar Warehouse along its eastern side.

Mechanical demolition of the Boiler House is ongoing. Hand demolition is ongoing inside Building 16 where workers are flame-cutting metal.

Plexiglas windows were installed at various points along the perimeter fence at Kent Avenue to allow for public viewing of the Site.

DOMINO CONSTRUCTION UPDATE:Week of October 6th, 2014

As of September 30th, Havemeyer Park (previously located on Site E) has closed for the season. We are working to find a new home for the Brooklyn Bike Park and North Brooklyn Farms across the street for next summer.

The Boiler House is continuing to undergo Phase III mechanical demolition work. A long-reach excavator is installed along the north side of the Boiler House to demolish the upper floors. Excavators and skidsteers are sorting the demolition debris stockpiled in the location of the former Building 16/Adant House.

The “Domino Sugar” sign removal is ongoing from the west side of Building 16. Hand demolition is ongoing inside the Building 16 tower where workers are flame-cutting metal.

Hand demolition is ongoing at the Raw Sugar Warehouse. Workers finished removing wooden planks from the roof and have begun hand demolition on the north side of the building along Grand Avenue.

DOMINO CONSTRUCTION UPDATE:Week of September 22, 2014 and September 29, 2014

The Boiler House is continuing to undergo Phase III mechanical demolition work. A long-reach excavator is working along the north side of the Boiler House to demolish the upper floors. Excavators and skidsteers are sorting the demolition debris stockpiled in the location of the former Building 16/Adant House. Preparations to move the long-reach excavator to the south side of the Boiler House are ongoing. Workers are in the process of creating a flat platform along the south side of the Boiler House.

The “Domino Sugar” sign removal is ongoing from the west side of Building 16. Hand demolition is ongoing inside the Building 16 tower where workers are flame-cutting metal.

Hand demolition is ongoing at the Raw Sugar Warehouse. Workers aided by a man-lift are removing wooden beams from the warehouse roof. Scaffolding was erected along the north side of the warehouse on Grand Avenue. A platform will be constructed in this area in preparation of hand demolition work to serve as a buffer between the Raw Sugar Warehouse and the East River.

A geotechnical survey is in progress on Site E.

DOMINO CONSTRUCTION UPDATE:Week of September 8, 2014 and September 15, 2014

The Boiler House is undergoing Phase III mechanical demolition work. A hydraulic excavator is installed along the north side of the Boiler House to demolish the upper floors. Excavators and skidsteers sort the demolition debris which is stockpiled on the site of the former Building 16/Adant House. Workers aided by a man-lift flame-cut steel from the roof on the western side of the Boiler House. The four remaining sugar tanks located at the southern side of the building were removed and stored near the southern edge of the property. Mechanical demolition of the south side of the Boiler House is ongoing.

The “Domino Sugar” sign is in the process of being taken down from the west side of Building 16. Several of the letters have been removed. Workers are constructing cradles around each of the letters for storage. Hand demolition has begun inside the Building 16 tower where workers are flame-cutting metal.

Grading was completed on the site of the former Building 16/Adant House as well as the former vegetated field located east of the Raw Sugar Warehouse.

The Raw Sugar Warehouse is undergoing preparation for demolition. Extension of the perimeter fence along Grand Street towards the East River was completed. The windows were removed from the building. Workers are cleaning sugar from the building interior.

DOMINO CONSTRUCTION UPDATE:Week of August 25, 2014 and September 1, 2014

The Boiler House is undergoing Phase III mechanical demolition work. Excavators are located along the north side of the Boiler House to demolish the building’s upper floors. Excavators and skidsteers are sorting the demolition debris which was then removed to stockpiles located on site. Workers aided by a man-lift are flame-cutting steel from the roof on the western side of the Boiler House.

Building 16 is undergoing preparation for the removal of the Domino Sugar sign and demolition of the remaining portions of the building. The emergency hoist system was completed and successfully passed a drop test. Hand demolition of the Domino Sugar sign and the remaining portion of Building 16 will begin shortly.

Excavation and removal of the two (2) underground storage tanks located in the vegetated field was completed. The process of re-grading the area is ongoing.

The perimeter fence along Grand Street is undergoing extension towards the East River in preparation for the demolition of the Raw Sugar Warehouse.

DOMINO CONSTRUCTION UPDATE:Week of August 11, 2014 and August 18, 2014

The Boiler House is undergoing Phase III mechanical demolition work. Excavators are staging construction debris along the north side of the building.On the west side of the Boiler House, workers aided by a man-lift are flame cutting steel from the exterior.

Building 16 is undergoing preparation for the removal of the Domino Sugar sign and demolition of the remaining portions of the building. Holes were cut into the north side of the structure to allow installation of a hoist. Scaffolding was erected on the west side of the structure.

The two underground storage tanks located in the vegetated field are undergoing excavation and removal. Excavators were moving soil and sorting metal debris.

DOMINO CONSTRUCTION UPDATE:Week of July 28, 2014 and August 4, 2014

The Boiler House is undergoing Phase III mechanical demolition work. Machinery demolished and sorted metal on the north side of the Boiler House. On the south side of the Boiler House, workers aided by basket cranes flame cut steel from the exterior stacks. A dunnage was assembled on the south side of the property, where Building 15 had been formerly located. The four remaining sugar tank towers will be moved from the south side of the Boiler House and stored on the dunnage so that the surrounding area can be demolished.

Building 16 is undergoing preparation for the removal of the Domino Sugar sign and demolition of the remaining portions of the building. Holes were cut into the north side of the structure to erect a hoist system. Scaffolding materials are stored on the west side of the structure and will be erected once the hoist is assembled.

The cleanup of the two underground storage tanks and associated piping located in the vegetated field has been completed. The tanks and piping are awaiting removal.
