DOMINO CONSTRUCTION UPDATE:Week of September 8, 2014 and September 15, 2014

The Boiler House is undergoing Phase III mechanical demolition work. A hydraulic excavator is installed along the north side of the Boiler House to demolish the upper floors. Excavators and skidsteers sort the demolition debris which is stockpiled on the site of the former Building 16/Adant House. Workers aided by a man-lift flame-cut steel from the roof on the western side of the Boiler House. The four remaining sugar tanks located at the southern side of the building were removed and stored near the southern edge of the property. Mechanical demolition of the south side of the Boiler House is ongoing.

The “Domino Sugar” sign is in the process of being taken down from the west side of Building 16. Several of the letters have been removed. Workers are constructing cradles around each of the letters for storage. Hand demolition has begun inside the Building 16 tower where workers are flame-cutting metal.

Grading was completed on the site of the former Building 16/Adant House as well as the former vegetated field located east of the Raw Sugar Warehouse.

The Raw Sugar Warehouse is undergoing preparation for demolition. Extension of the perimeter fence along Grand Street towards the East River was completed. The windows were removed from the building. Workers are cleaning sugar from the building interior.
